A building services model created in FLUID DESK BIM can be exported to the IFC format using the MKEIFC command.
The command generates an IFC file while preserving the model geometry and element data, allowing it to be used for multidisciplinary coordination, clash detection, and data exchange with other BIM applications.
To export the model correctly, follow the steps below.
- Select the elements to be exported
Select the entire building services model or the specific part of the model that you want to export. Elements can be selected in either the 2D or 3D view.
- Run the MKEIFC command
Type the following command in the command line:
MKEIFC
and press Enter.
A dialog box will appear, allowing you to:
- specify the location where the IFC file will be saved,
- enter the name of the exported IFC file.
By default, the proposed file name is taken from the currently open DWG drawing.
- Define the model base point
After confirming the file name, the program will prompt you to specify the base point of the exported model.
This is one of the most important steps in the export process, as the correct position of the IFC model within the project’s global coordinate system depends on the proper definition of the base point.
The following scenarios may apply:
- If the base point has been agreed upon with the architectural designer, enter the agreed coordinates.
- If no base point has been established, use the default coordinates (0, 0, 0).
- If the architectural model has been shifted (for example, by the designer or during export from architectural software), enter the coordinates of the base point that were valid before the shift was applied. This will preserve the correct relative position of all discipline models within the BIM environment.
Important!
An incorrectly defined base point may cause the IFC model to be displaced relative to models from other disciplines.
As a result, the model may be incorrectly positioned during BIM coordination, making clash detection, project analysis, and collaboration between project participants more difficult.
Before exporting, ensure that all disciplines use the same coordinate system and the agreed project base point.
